Privacy Policy

What data this site does and doesn't collect, the third-party services it uses, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 10 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how PAC Explained (pac-file-explained.dev, "the site", "we") handles information when you visit. The site is an informational reference. It has no user accounts, no logins, and no sign-up or contact forms, so we do not directly collect personal information such as your name or email address unless you choose to email us.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, basic technical information (such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request) may be processed by our hosting provider and the third-party services described below in order to deliver the site, keep it secure, and serve ads. We do not use this information to identify you personally.

Cookies and local storage

The site itself sets no first-party tracking cookies. It stores a single preference — your chosen light/dark theme — in your browser's localStorage under the key pac-theme. This value never leaves your device and is not used for tracking. You can clear it at any time through your browser's site-data controls.

Third-party services we use (notably Google AdSense) may set their own cookies or use similar technologies, as described below.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site displays ads served by Google AdSense. In doing so:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.

For more detail on how Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps, see Google's partner sites policy.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (such as page views and referrers). Cloudflare Web Analytics is privacy-focused: it does not use cookies and does not fingerprint or track individual visitors across sites. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

Fonts and hosting

The site loads typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser requests a font, Google may receive your IP address and user-agent as part of that request; see Google's Privacy Policy. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes requests to deliver and protect it.

The live PAC tester

The live tester runs entirely inside your browser. Any PAC file or URL you type is evaluated locally in JavaScript and is never transmitted to us or any third party. All DNS-related helper functions return simulated results, so no network lookups are performed.

External links

The site links to third-party resources (such as MDN, GitHub, and Buy Me a Coffee). Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.

Your choices

  • Manage or disable personalised ads via Google Ads Settings.
  • Block or delete cookies and site data through your browser settings.
  • Use a content blocker if you prefer not to load ad or font resources.

Children

This is a technical reference aimed at developers and IT professionals. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date above.
